We took the regional
To a tropical
Island waterpark
When the sky turned dark
Just saw a man shoot up
Someone squatting in a cup
A guy laughing at clouds
By a grey plattenbau
In our minds were steel bands
People clapping their hands
Limbo dancing in time
But there were leaves on the line
The exotic ride
Through the city’s backside
Didn’t feel so Iggy Pop
When the train just stopped
At a lonely platform
For an oncoming storm
If we haven’t made it yet
At least we still got wet

Mystical Power

They don’t put their trousers on
One leg at a time
They were born with linen chinos
Woven round their thighs
They’ve got mystical power
And they don’t put a foot wrong
They have no need for feet
It wasn’t them you saw
Because they slither down the street
They’ve got mystical power
And they don’t even sweat
Not a single drop
When you’ve got the power
You know how to make it stop
They’ve got mystical power
They can turn into a tool
A spade that’s not a spade
When you dig yourself a hole
It doesn’t matter how it’s made
They’ve got mystical power

Canned Laughter

90s sitcom canned laughs
Should make a comeback
There’s not much to chortle at
Let’s have a button by our sides
That we can press
When our sense of humour dies
There would be laughter on demand
Laughter in our hands
Just think of the belly laughs
That there could be
As we watch the world collapse
While a wealthy elite has fun
There’d be a go-to chuckle for everyone
There would be laughter on demand
Laughter in our hands

Dream Within An Aldi

I wanted to escape, so I went for a walk to the supermarket. I asked an old woman stacking shelves where the chickpeas were. She said ‘follow me’. To my surprise, she walked through the fire exit into the car park.
The next thing I knew, we were climbing into her car and driving down the road. She had the windows rolled down, hair blowing in the wind. We were driving past tower blocks, past used mattresses and allotments and industrial estates.
Suddenly, we were out in the countryside. The sun was beaming down, fields stretching out to the horizon. We reached a forest and got out. She said ‘this way’.
The light was dappling through the leaves. We came to a clearing. There were animals roaming freely everywhere. Pigs and cows and sheep and chickens. There were tomatoes the size of balloons. ‘What is this place?’ I asked. ‘This is where we get our produce’ she said.
‘That’s not all.’ she said. ‘Come with me’. She led us down a path to an opening in the forest. A circle of people were dancing to music, waving their arms in the air, smiling from ear to ear. ‘Who are these people?’ I asked. ‘Those are my colleagues’ she said. ‘The company organises this?’ I asked. ‘Oh yes’ she said. ‘What did you think, that they just have us check sell-by dates all day’?
‘Wow’ I said. ‘Now, about those chickpeas.’ Suddenly, I was thrown back under strip lights, listening to the clinical beep of a distant scanner. ‘They’re in aisle 5’ she said.

Scared Of Your Shadow
04:01
|

What’s that thing crawling along the wall?
It’s long and dark, about five foot eight tall
Oh! Don’t be scared of your shadow
Because it’s your top follower alone
There’s something documenting every move
Making a movie while you vacuum
Oh! Don’t be scared of your shadow
Because it’s your top follower alone
It’s photobombing selfies that you take
Look over your shoulder, there’s its face
Oh! Don’t be scared of your shadow
Because it’s your top follower alone
